Care Homes

ANIMAL THERAPY FOR THOSE LIVING IN CARE HOMES

The evidence is now universally accepted that therapy dog and any animal interaction with elderly residents of care homes can show dramatic effects. There is a decrease in loneliness and isolation after therapy dog visits, it has a real positive effect and increases wellbeing. New residents in particular, who are adjusting to life in care, away from family and their homes, can often feel isolated amongst a crowd of new faces.

The introduction of regular visits from our therapy dog can bring real changes in their happiness, especially if they have left behind or had pets of their own. Missing family and friends is hard enough, but for those who had pets it can be much harder. These are just some of the benefits:

  • Combat loneliness

  • Boost activity levels

  • Reduce stress and depression

  • Unlocking memories

  • Social involvement

  • Emotional well-being
